Project Awasar

Overview

Project Awasar is a student-led leadership and personal development initiative under Creating Opportunities, launched to bridge academic learning with real-world leadership skills at Kathmandu University. It brings together expert panels, workshops, mentorship, and community service to build a well-rounded student leadership experience.

The Challenge

Many students struggle to apply academic theory to practical leadership scenarios. There is also a lack of structured platforms for civic engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and mentorship in university settings.

Our Approach

• Organized interactive panels and workshops on leadership, ethics, and communication. • Launched 10+ mentorship circles for peer-to-peer learning. • Engaged students in hands-on community impact projects. • Partnered with student councils and NGOs for resource and guest facilitation. • Implemented pre- and post-program surveys to track growth.

Key Results

  • 250+ students participated in the inaugural “Beyond Academics” event.
  • 5 skill-building workshops held with 92% satisfaction rate.
  • 60 students engaged in environmental community service.
  • 45% growth in leadership confidence and 38% increase in civic awareness.
  • Built partnerships with 5 student/NGO bodies for sustained support.

Conclusion

Project Awasar successfully empowered university students to lead with confidence and purpose. With strong foundational success, the program is now poised to scale regionally and deepen its curriculum to build future-ready leaders.

Project Awasar transformed my perspective on leadership. Through interactive sessions and real-world case studies, I learned how to translate academic knowledge into action. The mentorship circles were invaluable—my mentor guided me through organizing our community sustainability drive, and the confidence I gained continues to shape my professional journey.

As an engineering student, I often saw leadership as outside my technical domain. Project Awasar challenged that notion by demonstrating how engineering principles apply to team management and social innovation. The legal framework workshop was especially eye-opening, equipping me with the tools to navigate regulatory landscapes for future tech startups.
